A massive fire broke out in a slum at Ultadanga during January 2010 and atleast 500 huts were engulfed in the blaze. The team at HIVE responded within half an hour and continued their service day and night for 4 days at a stretch. The rescue operation primarily included first aid for hundreds of people- children, men, women and old people, dressing the fire victims, providing them medicines, transferring injured/burnt victims to nearby hospitals as well as facilitating them for admission in emergency wards of government hospitals.
HIVE India – A Social Welfare Organization
HIVE INDIA is a social development organization working for the deprived, less- privileged sections of the society in Kolkata in the field of primary health, education, and child protection. HIVE runs crèche for the infants & toddlers, primary academic classes for the out-of-school children, special tutorial classes for the mainstream children under the education project.
HIVE runs an unique service - Emergency Response Unit – the very first initiative of its kind in Kolkata – which responds to any may day call any time, anywhere, in any corner of the city, which reaches the spot within 15-20 minutes of the call received to rescue anybody in distressed situation lying unattended.
HIVE works closely with Police headquarters at Lalbazar and the Community Police wing(Civil police) of the Kolkata Police. The organization primarily is funded by the well-known funding agency Hope Foundation based at Ireland.
