Backdrop of the organization

HIVE is the brainchild of Dr.Rakesh Agrawal – an eminent doctor who wanted to work for the downtrodden, the needy, an expert in the field of HIV/AIDS and Shri Nitaidas Mukherjee – a passionate social worker, an expert in the field of healthcare and emergency rescue services. Dr. Agrawal is currently serving as head of the advisory board of HIVE India and Mr. Mukherjee is the Chief Functionary of the organization.

The organization HIVE India has been since the year 1999 developing valorous work in ensuring human rights and basic services to the marginalized population of the city of Kolkata. Reaching out to thousands of individuals from the slums and streets of the city, HIVE India and its dedicated team of professional social workers, researchers, teachers and doctors has focused on the comprehensive development through the doctrine of wholesome care and services, such as the promotion of health care, education and socio-economical advancement of poverty-stricken communities.

HIVE India acts in a unique way by seeking to provide a completely integrated and coherent service to the marginalized members of society in Kolkata, through the implementation of specific development programs and the practice of continuous education and health care services along with a permanent medical emergency rescue service, provided by the organization’s emergency response units. These activities are guaranteed by the support of Ireland’s Hope Foundation, with whom HIVE India has had a productive partnership for many years, acting as an essential provider of the means with which to develop the work and services. These two organizations not only share a common mission but are guided by the same spirit of public development service and share the accomplishments of the work developed of the streets of Kolkata.

HIVE India is specialized in the domain of disease prevention and health care promotion and in making primary and secondary health care facilities affordable and accessible to all sectors of the population of Kolkata. Its activities in regards those infected with HIV/AIDS have developed the organization into an active catalyst for prevention and control both in the marginalized and the general population of Kolkata. HIVE India stands out by not confining its actions exclusively to medical care, by also addressing the socio- economical needs of the afflicted persons through the four interrelated elements of holistic care, like clinical management, institutional and home based nursing care, social and psychological support.

The organization’s integrated Child Protection Program has been for the past years caring for the children at risk in Kolkata, found in the dire situations of child labor, abandonment, human trafficking, mal-nutrition, poverty and socio-economical marginalization. HIVE India has reached out to thousands of children whose right to a happy and dignified future was restored.

Together with Hope Foundation, the provision of these services has proved overwhelmingly effective and has been perfected over years of experience and positive results and HIVE India’s mission has inspired and driven its dedicated teams in making a solid and inspiring contribution to the sustainable welfare of the people of Kolkata.
