Backdrop of the organization
HIVE INDIA – today, an organization of high repute in Kolkata – began its journey in the year 1996 by two benevolent individuals who dreamt for a better living for the people in need.
HIVE is the brainchild of Dr.Rakesh Agrawal – an eminent doctor who wanted to work for the downtrodden, the needy, an expert in the field of HIV/AIDS and Shri Nitaidas Mukherjee – a passionate social worker, an expert in the field of healthcare and emergency rescue services. Dr. Agrawal is currently serving as head of the advisory board of HIVE India and Mr. Mukherjee is the Chief Functionary of the organization.
HIVE began its activities with weekly medical clinics for the street and slum dwellers in a local school building where medicines were also given to patients without any charges. The number of people visiting the clinics increased rapidly over the weeks and the demands of the beneficiaries grew more over the years which required more attention & care and thus the need for a formal organization could not be ignored. Determination and relentless effort by the organization members led HIVE INDIA to get registered in the year 1999 under West Bengal Society’s Registration Act.
The dedicated team at HIVE continued to work with local donations in the field of child education, health, child protection and child rights issues, HIV/AIDS and emergency rescue. Gradually the team members increased and activities grew manifold.
Funded by Hope Foundation- Ireland, HIVE currently operates four distinct projects – (1) Holistic Education programme, (2) Primary Health Care programme, (3) Child Watch (child protection / child rights) and (4) Emergency Rescue.
Presently, HIVE has strength of 48 professionals and more than 100 volunteers are working under different projects & initiatives in and around Kolkata.
